The exceptions are groups B and C - if the repertoire is made of three pieces, then only the Etude selected from the given list can be an additional piece of Frederic Chopin, as the third in the competition program.

Participants may suggest a piece by a Polish composer, not included in the official selection list. It must be considered and approved by the Organising Committee of the Competition before it can be added to the list of competition pieces.

Questions and Answers

  1. Does each round require different pieces?
The same pieces may be performed in all stages of the Competition. Applicants can choose the styles, pieces, and composers that best express their artistic personality from the selection list provided by the Competition committee for their assigned age category.
The repertoire for the Semi-final and Final stages must be played from memory.

  2. Must each round include a piece by a Polish composer from the website list?
The Competition is exclusively dedicated to Polish composers and composers of Polish origin, featuring repertoire from the Chopin era to contemporary music.

  3. Can any Chopin work be chosen, or only those listed on the website?
Participants may propose a piece by a Polish composer, including Chopin, that is not on the official selection list. However, it must be reviewed and approved by the Competition’s Organising Committee before being added to the repertoire.

  4. For Group A participants, is only one Chopin piece allowed, or one piece plus one étude?
Only one Chopin composition is permitted, regardless of the group.

  5. Can the "Own Choice" piece be by any composer, or must it be a Polish composer from the list?
"Own Choice" refers to a selection from the repertoire list provided on our website.
